Home Spills

Home spills are very common and can become dangerous if not treated correctly. With so many different chemicals in your house and garage, you need to be sure that you can clean up any accidental spills.

Ampho-Mag™ efficiently handles all your spill control needs and contains an innovative multi-range pH indicator that further simplifies spill response.

Two of the most common chemical spills in the home is mercury from a thermometer and gasoline.

Here are some clean up tips to help safely clean up the spill at Home or in the Garage:

 1. Make sure the area is clear of children, pets and others.
   2. Make sure that there is open air flow in the air to avoid inhalation of vapor... especially of mercury.

 3. Assemble clean up supplies:
  • Latex/Rubber gloves
  • Goggles
  • 2 small pieces of stiff paper or cardboard (not corrugated) with at least one straight edge
  • Eyedropper
  • Tweezers
  • Tape - any kind - different floors may warrant different types of tape
  • Damp paper towels
  • Air-tight/seal-able plastic bags
  • Garbage bags
  • Ampho-Mag’s™
   4. Dress Appropriately - Remove all jewelry and change into old clothes
   5. Contain the spill - Keep the liquid from spreading intocracks, crevices, floor drains etc... (Use tape to confine spill if necessary.

 6. Pick up all outside debris (if any) - Use tweezers and dustpan to pick up any glass or other material outside of spill area.
   7. Sprinkle Ampho-Mag’s™ on spill area to absorb any liquid. Once a color change occurs it will be safe to remove

 8. Put on rubber gloves and remove spill using damp paper towels - Put paper towels in seal-able bag

 9. Seal up bag and throw in garbage bag - immediately take out to trash.
   10. Immediately wash your hands and any other child or pet that was in contact with the spill.
   11. Continue to ventilate area for up to 2 days if possible

When applied to the spill, Ampho-Mag’s™ color turns to red for acids and blue for bases. As Ampho-Mag™ neutralizes the spill, the color gradually changes to yellow or green. Free liquids in the released materials can easily be controlled and the neutralized material can typically be landfilled. For instance, sulfuric acid is safely rendered to harmless Epson Salt after neutralization.
